Mississauga, ON – Today, local MPP Natalia Kusendova-Bashta was on hand at The Riverwood Conservancy as the conservancy hosted its nature-focused P.A. Day Camp for kids in Grades 1-6. Within the conservancy’s updated program space, kids interacted with a variety of teaching aids that the conservancy was able to acquire thanks to a $20,300 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
“It was great to visit The Riverwood Conservancy and see how this Ontario Trillium Foundation Capital grant is strengthening environmental learning in our community,” said Natalia Kusendova-Bashta, MPP for Mississauga Centre. “By investing in updated program spaces and equipment, we are helping The Riverwood Conservancy continue its important work as an accessible, welcoming place where people can connect with nature, learn about conservation, and support the long-term sustainability of this treasured natural area.”
The grant, awarded in 2025, provided funding for The Riverwood Conservancy to replace equipment that had deteriorated after years of public programming. The conservancy’s teaching space has been updated with new projectors and screens, white boards, storage spaces, and engagement pieces like molds of animal skulls.
“With so many people relying on our programs to connect with nature, the materials we use to deliver those programs can end up in a state of disrepair. We’re so grateful for the funding we received from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to update our spaces, so our staff can be better equipped, and our volunteers and participants can be better served.” said Derek Stone, Program Director at The Riverwood Conservancy.
