March Break Day Camp

Connect your child with nature at Riverwood this March Break!

Your child can explore Riverwood's beautiful natural spaces at the turn of the season, just as the ice is melting and signs of spring are beginning to appear. Our full-day nature camp is open to children who have completed grades 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6. Campers spend a week adventuring with other like-minded youth to make friends and deepen their connection to the local environment and the wider world of nature.

Campers’ well-being is supported by a 6:1 camper to staff ratio that allows kids to go at their own pace. Our approach encourages growth in children’s well-being, confidence, creativity, and love of nature. We are intentional about building a fun, inclusive, and supportive camp community.

What kids can expect

Staff provide fun and engaging activities to explore the outdoors with your camper. Staff provide a mix of set activities and activity options that campers use to set the plan for adventure. Campers will hike on Riverwood’s trails, learn outdoor skills, build nature knowledge, play wildlife-focused games, and enjoy craft activities. Our staff will show campers how to use tools like binoculars, microscopes, sampling nets, and garden tools.

In the event of inclement weather, activities will take place inside Chappell House. The camp’s schedule is adjusted for the needs of the group and weather conditions of the day. Your camper’s day might look like this:

9:00 am | Arrival and Choose Your Own Activity (e.g. maker-space, board games, reading corner)

9:45 am | Campers go over the day’s plan with their counsellors

10:00 am | Campers help collect materials and fuel up for adventure with their snack

10:30 am | Outdoor adventures

12:15 pm | Lunch indoors at Chappell House

12:45 pm | Choose Your Own Activity connected to the morning adventures (e.g. journaling, structure building, microscopy, field guide research)

1:00 pm | Outdoor games (e.g. animal interaction simulations, nature exploration, environment-based skill building)

2:00 pm | Surprise guest of the day, or songs, skits, and games

3:00 pm | Review and reflect on the day’s plan

3:30 pm | Parent pickup

What kids should bring

Please ensure your child(ren) come to each day of camp well-prepared for time spent outdoors. Children should be dressed appropriately for the weather (appropriate shoes, sun protection, etc.), and must bring their own nut-free lunch, snacks, reusable water bottle and a pair of indoor shoes.

PLEASE NOTE: We are unable to administer medication to students other than EpiPens in an emergency situation. If your child is prone to anaphylaxis and may need an EpiPen administered in an emergency, we require that you complete and submit an Anaphylaxis Emergency Plan. Please email the completed form to info@theriverwoodconservancy.org or submit it to the camp director when you drop off your child.
