March Break Day Camp

Registration for the 2024 March Break Day Camp has now reached capacity.

Connect your child with nature at Riverwood this March Break!

March Break is the perfect time to give children the opportunity to get outdoors and connect with the natural world at Riverwood! Children from ages 6-12 (grades 1-6) spend the week adventuring with our experienced, professional outdoor educators.

Activities will grow children’s connections to the local environment and the wider world of nature. An 8:1 camper-to-staff/volunteer ratio allows kids to go at their own pace. Our approach encourages growth in children’s well-being, confidence, creativity and love of nature. Our staff and volunteers create an inclusive and supportive camp community.

What kids can expect

Staff provide a daily variety of activities that campers can choose from to set the plan for adventure. Campers will hike on Riverwood's trails, learn outdoor skills, build nature knowledge, play wildlife-focused games, and enjoy craft activities. Along the way, they can make new friends who share their interests.

In the event of inclement weather, activities will take place inside Chappell House. The camp's daily schedule looks like this:

9:00 am | Arrival and Choose Your Own Activity (e.g. maker-space, crafts, board games, reading corner)

9:45 am | Campers plan the morning schedule based on the menu of activities offered

10:00 am | Campers help collect materials and fuel up for adventure with their snack

10:30 am | Outdoor adventures

12:15 pm | Lunch indoors at Chappell House

12:45 pm | Choose Your Own Activity connected to the morning adventures (e.g. journaling, structure building, microscopy, field guide research)

1:00 pm | Outdoor games (animal interaction simulations)

2:00 pm | Surprise guest of the day or group songs, skits, and games

3:00 pm | Review and reflect on the day's plan, group songs or games

3:30 pm | Parent pickup

What kids should bring

Please ensure your child(ren) come to each day of Camp well-prepared for time spent outdoors. Children should be dressed appropriately for the weather (hat, gloves, winter boots, snow pants, winter coat, layers, extra mittens and extra pair of socks), and must bring their own nut-free lunch, snacks, reusable water bottle and a pair of indoor shoes.

PLEASE NOTE: We are unable to administer medication to students other than EpiPens in an emergency situation. If your child is prone to anaphylaxis and may need an EpiPen administered in an emergency, we require that you complete and submit an Anaphylaxis Emergency Plan. Please email the completed form to erin.farrow@theriverwoodconservancy.org or submit it to the teacher when you drop off your child.
