Field trips for special education classes

Enabling Garden field trips cover a range of topics and are suitable for K-12 students of all abilities. See our program options below and book your field trip today.

Hot Chocolate and Wild Birds | Two hours

Available from January 6 – March 28, 2025
$150 for up to eight students (additional students $15 each – up to a maximum of 15 students per group; no charge for care givers or assistants)

Students explore Riverwood’s urban forest and hand-feed chickadees, then return to our heated barn to warm up with hot chocolate. As an additional hands-on activity, and if time permits, we will create nature mandalas, adding bird seed to entice our feathered friends to visit!

Garden/Nature-Focused Program | Two hours

Available from April 14 – June 20, 2025 and September 8 – November 28, 2025
$150 for up to eight students (additional students $15 each – up to a maximum of 15 students per group; no charge for care givers or assistants)

Hands-on outdoor practical garden and nature programs held in a fully accessible learning space with adaptive tools. Activities are seasonal and can include seed starting, flower and vegetable planting, garden care, harvest and fall cleanup, birding, pollinator observations and tree and plant identification.

Cancellation Policy

When a program must be cancelled by The Riverwood Conservancy (TRC) or the school, for instance in the case of inclement weather, bus cancellations, or illness, TRC and the school will attempt to re-schedule. Inclement weather includes, but is not limited to thunderstorms, high winds, flooding, and temperature extremes.

TRC must receive notice of a program cancellation at least two weeks in advance of scheduled program. A cancellation charge of 50 per cent of the program fee will be applied when less than two weeks of notice is provided.

If technical difficulties on the day of the event lead to program cancellation, every effort will be made to reschedule, and no cancellation fee will be charged.

Program Booking and Payment

Complete the form below to book your Enabling Garden field trip. Please note that separate forms must be submitted for each program you wish to book for your class.

After submitting your form, we will contact you at the email address you provided with details on your program. You must reply to that email to confirm your booking. Unconfirmed booking requests will be held for two weeks. After that time, the requested dates will be released. Please note that a pre-program planning call may be required before we can confirm a program booking; we will contact you to arrange a call if necessary.

TRC will send an invoice to your school after the delivery of your requested program(s).
