Summer BioBlitz 2025

Over 1,000 observations of over 450 species were recorded at our Summer BioBlitz 2025! Thank you to everyone who took part in this important conservation effort!

Calling all citizen scientists!
Saturday, August 23, 2025
7:00 am – 11:00 pm
Within Riverwood's Boundaries

Become a citizen scientist by joining our 3rd annual day-long Summer BioBlitz! We are aiming to grow our knowledge of Riverwood’s plants and animals, and the impact that urbanization has on their populations. All ages and levels of nature knowledge are welcome at our BioBlitz!

We’ll have guided programs throughout the day, but you’re also encouraged to explore the park on your own throughout the day to spot and record plant and animal observations for the BioBlitz.

Our thanks to Granite REIT for supporting our 2025 Summer BioBlitz.

Important Information

The BioBlitz runs from 7:00 am – 11:00 pm within Riverwood’s park boundaries.

Staff and volunteers from The Riverwood Conservancy will be present inside the MacEwan Barn from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm to help you get involved in the BioBlitz and discuss any of your observations!

Please remain on trails and leave no trace. Do not leave trails to take images. Only submit images of natural plants and animals; no photos of cultivated plants or domestic pets.

Create a free account on iNaturalist to submit images via the app on Android or Apple devices, or upload them to the website on your computer later. Photos must be taken within Riverwood’s boundaries between 7:00 am and 11:00 pm on August 23, 2025 only. The GPS coordinates of your phone or camera and the time and date of your photos will automatically link to our project when you upload images to iNaturalist. Upload as you go or all at once when you get home. Observations must be submitted by 5:00 pm on Thursday, August 28, 2025 to be included in our iNaturalist project and be eligible for prizes.
