Thanks to the generous support from Urban Nature Store, you can join us for this free Beginner Birding program and learn the basics of birding, including how to begin identifying birds by sound, colour, shape, and size. This program is open to all experience levels and ages. We will be pointing out and identifying all birds we see along the way, and creating a list for you to review after.
Important Information
This program is suitable for all ages.
Binoculars are available to borrow for the duration of the program. A bird checklist and map will be provided to newcomers to the program.
Dress for the weather. This is a rain or shine event unless severe weather is in the forecast.
No dogs permitted, service animals welcome.
Difficulty Rating
Moderate. This program may involve steep hills, uneven terrain, and greater than one kilometre of traveling.
About the Presenter
Derek Stone is a lifelong naturalist and wildlife enthusiast, who pursued his degree in Environmental Studies and Resource Management at Trent University with a focus on ecology and public policy. Since then, Derek has engaged in multiple positions that focus on monitoring and restoring degraded environments, and enthusiastically engaging the public with nature. As The Riverwood Conservancy’s Program Director, Derek focuses on creating strong connections between nature and people, and embracing those connections to support both our environment and our community.
